[IMPORTANT] Opalite is a MAN-MADE glass, not natural opal. It is usually made by fusing glass with metals such as copper, gold or cobalt, and shows a soft milky-blue or pink glow through the 'Tyndall effect.'
Natural opal is hydrated silicon dioxide formed over millions of years; opalite is synthetically produced, and the two differ completely in composition and value.
Because the finished material can contain air bubbles (a trace of the glass process), it is sometimes called 'glass opal.' It has no natural deposit; it is industrially manufactured.
