Orange selenite is the orange variety of selenite (a gypsum crystal), with the chemical formula CaSO₄·2H₂O, colored orange or peach by impurities such as iron.
Main deposits: Mexico, Morocco, the United States and Australia.
The name comes from the Greek 'selene' (moon), because the crystal is as clear and luminous as moonlight.
With a Mohs hardness of about 2 (very soft) and sensitivity to water, it suits spheres, ornaments and cleansing tools; it should be cleaned dry.
