Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral, usually pale green or yellow-green, with crystals that may be botryoidal, stalactitic or massive, hence the name 'grape stone.'
Main deposits: Australia, South Africa, China, Mali, India and the United States.
Fine 'green prehnite' cabochons are clear, bright apple-green and used in jewelry.
With a Mohs hardness of about 6-6.5, it is suited to polishing into spheres, pendants and carvings.

2. HISTORY

Prehnite is named after the Dutch mineralogist Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, who first found the mineral in South Africa in 1788.
