[IMPORTANT] Red goldstone (also called red sandstone in trade) is a MAN-MADE glass, not a natural mineral. It is made by reducing copper salts / copper oxide during glassmaking to create metallic copper flecks, giving an internal red-gold 'starry' sparkle.
Place of origin: Venice (Murano), Italy, where it was accidentally invented by glassmakers in the 17th century; the 'goldstone' effect comes from the reduction of copper into crystals.
It is the same process as blue sandstone (blue goldstone) in a different color.
With a hardness of about 5-6 (as glass), it is suited to making spheres, jewelry and ornaments.
2. HISTORY

The goldstone craft originated in 17th-century Venice, Italy, discovered by accident by glassmakers working with copper-containing gold glass.
