Main deposits: Brazil and Madagascar, with additional material from the United States, India and South Africa.
Colors range from pale pink to rose pink; star rose quartz contains needle-like inclusions that produce a six-rayed star.
With a Mohs hardness of 7, it is hard and suited to polishing into pyramids, carvings and beads.
